French Montana has been building up a good amount of anticipation on social media for this album in recent times. Adding the words they must got amnesia on to everything he put out there for a while, it all made sense once we saw the album title.
With ‘They Got Amnesia’ being French’s 4th studio album. You can tell he’s had enough of people not acknowledging his longevity in the game and putting disrespect on his name. That’s pretty much the concept of the album. Showing people French isn’t just good for a feature here and there but can still make some pretty good music.

Some more French criticism in recent years is that he jumps on waves and tailors his music to whatever is hot at the moment and he doesn’t stay true to his natural sound. Doing this has also led to some people losing respect for him as an artist.
If you’re looking for top-tier lyricism, French isn’t the artist for you, but if you want anthems and fun music to zone out to, French can give you that. Songs such as ‘FWMGAB’ are the essence of French and when he is at his best. He uses the classic Jerry Rivera ‘Amores Como El Nuestro’ sample, which was also made popular by Shakira, and adds his twist to it. The visuals are incredible and show NY coming out to show French love and how the city gets down.
French is known for keeping a strip club anthems up his sleeve, and he may have another one with ‘Handstand’ featuring Doja Cat & Saweetie. The playful beat and all artists rapping about sexual content in a similar cadence make this one go off. Doja is a standout feature on the whole project. Her tone of voice is just perfect. There’s nothing this woman can’t do.
There are a few songs on ‘They Got Amnesia’ where the feature does overshadow French on the track. It’s a tough task to outdo Fivio Foreign on a drill track, and on ‘Panicking’ Fivio shows just why. However, at the end of the day if the song sounds fire that’s all that really matters.
The last track on the album ‘Cold’ featuring Tory Lanez is one of the standouts. It sounds like something that would be on one of Tory Lanez’s highly revered Chixtape Tapes projects. The soft guitar-led beat is chilled with a little kick to it. Tory sings and raps as if his life depends on it. French delivers too with an excellent flow and the perfect bars for this type of song. There can be no doubt that ‘Cold’ will be getting added to a few playlists right now.
Having 22 songs does make this album a little hard to come back and listen to in its entirety. It could have been more concise as there are a few tracks on it that feel like filler. However, on ‘They Got Amnesia; French shows why he’s been relevant in the game for so long. On his best form, he’s capable of making some of the hottest songs out and producing some really cool projects.
